AI assistants
Find VoltShare chargers from Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants.
What is the VoltShare connector?
VoltShare runs a public Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, so AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT can search the VoltShare charger map for you. Ask in plain language for chargers near a place and your assistant looks them up live, including connector, power, price and whether a charger is free right now.
How do I add VoltShare to Claude?
In Claude, open Settings → Connectors, choose Add custom connector and enter https://mcp.voltshare.app/mcp. If VoltShare is listed in the connector directory, you can add it from there instead. No VoltShare account or sign-in is needed, so the connector works as soon as you add it.
Can I use it with other AI assistants?
Yes. Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP can connect to https://mcp.voltshare.app/mcp. Look for an option called custom connector, remote MCP server or app in your assistant’s settings.
What can my assistant do with it?
It has two read-only tools. Search chargers finds chargers near an address, a place name or a lat,lng pair, filtered by connector type (J1772, CCS, CHAdeMO, NEMA 14-50 or Tesla), minimum power, maximum price per kWh, search radius and live availability. Get charger details returns one charger’s pricing, connector, power, status, availability hours and host or network.
What should I ask it?
Try “Find J1772 chargers under $0.30/kWh within 5 miles of downtown Austin”, “Are there any fast chargers available right now near SFO?” or “Tell me more about the second charger: hours, price and who runs it.”
Can my assistant book or pay for a charge?
No. The connector only reads public listing information and can’t book, pay, message a host or change anything on your account. When you find a charger you like, book it on voltshare.app or in the VoltShare app.
Does the connector share a host’s exact address?
No. Public network chargers show their exact address, but private chargers show only an approximate area of about 1 km. As on the map, the street address is shared only with the driver after a booking is confirmed.
What data does the connector see?
Only what your assistant sends for each search: the location text and the filters. VoltShare doesn’t receive your conversation or know who you are. See the AI assistants section of our Privacy Policy for details. For questions, email [email protected].
Prefer to search yourself?
Everything your assistant can look up is on the VoltShare map too, and there you can book in a few taps.
